In the previous blog post, I shared 4 questions that will help you get clarity when you’re feeling stuck. Now that you’ve answered the questions, you may be wondering how you can increase your level of clarity.

Having clarity is important to achieving goals and attaining any significant measure of success. With clear goals, you know what you want and how to go about getting there.

  • But what if you’re not feeling much clarity?
  • What if you can’t make up your mind about what path you should choose, and your decision-making seems muddled?
  • And what if you want to be able to increase your level of clarity without seeking external advice?

Being able to get crystal clear clarity on your own and to trust that this will work for you is actually a common challenge. It’s also a challenge that happens to the best of us from time to time.

Fortunately, moving from a sense of uncertainty into full clarity isn’t particularly difficult. All you need to do is take some simple actions, and clarity will follow.

Here are 6 Ways to Increase Your Level of Clarity

1. Take Responsibility

There is power when you take full responsibility for where you are in life. This is because taking 100% responsibility for anything gives you the power to change it.

When you believe that something is within your control, you can always find a way to have what you want. You’ll not stay stuck for long and will be able to get solutions quicker than someone who doesn’t take responsibility.

Clarity is not something that happens to you. It’s something that you ultimately create. If you’re not as well practiced at creating clarity as you would like, resolve that you’re going to work on this.

The same can be said when you need to increase your level of clarity. That too is a result of consciously making decisions, taking action, accepting responsibility, and charting a new way forward.

Start by making a decision and then sticking with it until you succeed. Since you get better at making decisions by being aware of your priorities, it helps to first spend some time contemplating what’s most important to you.

2. Learn From Your Past

Fortunately, everyone has a past and your past is a tool that’s always available. While you may not like some of the things you did in the past or results that you got/didn’t get, you can use your past to your advantage.

Your level of clarity hasn’t always been constant. There have been times in your life when things seemed much clearer than they are right now. There have also been times when you felt more uncertain than you do today.

Take a walk back into your past and use what you learn to increase your level of clarity today. Additionally, start charting your progress so that it will be easier to reflect back in the future.

3. Harness the Power of Visualization

Many people think that things have to be a certain way before they feel clear enough to take action. It’s true that having everything “just so” can make focusing easier.

However, this can often lead to procrastination as you wait for things to align. It can also lead to perfectionism as you try to get all your ducks in a row before taking the next step!

Successful people choose to act even when things aren’t perfect.

This is where visualization comes in handy. Instead of waiting for the ideal circumstances, visualize what your life would be like if they were in place.

  • What would you know that you don’t know right now?
  • How would you feel and think?
  • What would you say to yourself?
  • How would you act?
  • What is it that you would be able to do then that you haven’t done so far?

Visualization will help you make decisions as though things are actually already the way you want them to be.  The more you do this, the easier it will be for you to have a higher level of clarity about your goals.

4. Write Down Your Goals and Review Them Daily

Having a written goal or objective will help you stay clear.

  1. First of all, you have to make some decisions in order to have a goal in the first place.
  2. Second, by reviewing that goal every day, you’ll keep reinforcing it in your mind.
  3. Finally, as you work on the tasks related to your goal daily, you will increase your level of clarity each day.

Reviewing your goals first thing in the morning and last thing at night should work well for you. Couple this with visualizing success each day after you read your goals, and you will overcome most obstacles.

5. Believe That an Okay Goal is Better Than No Goal

Many people get stuck when it comes to goal setting because they believe they have to come up with the perfect goal. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Don’t spend too much time or energy creating the goal if you find that this keeps you stuck. Create a list of the things you want to achieve or work on. Then just pick one that feels good to you and start working on it.

Sometimes this is all the clarity that you’ll need to move forward. You can always update your goal as you get more clarity when working on it.

This is actually how I set the goals that I’m not sure about. I also use it when I’m procrastinating on making a decision between different things.

For example, if I have a number of ideas that I feel will work as courses, I end up overthinking and tend to do nothing.

But if I list them out and pick the one I feel inspired the most to work on, it’s easy to move forward with it. Sometimes the idea will work and I take it to the next level. Other times, it’s a dud and I have to abandon it. And there are times when I find that I can combine some of the ideas into a bigger and better product.

But remember, it all starts with choosing to do something rather than waiting for the perfect goals. Or, as one of my clients puts it, “Done is better than perfect!”

6. Focus on One Project at a Time

I must admit that this is one tough lesson that I had to learn the hard way. I used to set many goals for the year and try to do a number at a time…to my detriment! Most years I’d end up with a list of goals that were non-starters and many that were unfinished.

Nowadays, I work with 6 goals for the year (3 personal and 3 business). I also don’t work on them all at the same time. 80% of my attention goes to my #1 business goal for that year because a lot hinges on that goal succeeding.

This process has helped me increase my level of clarity each year. It has also boosted my goal-setting and achievement process because my mind, energy, and resources are not scattered.

Having a high level of clarity is easier if you’re only focusing on one thing at a time. Once you have achieved several goals, you can then try working on a number of goals simultaneously. Avoid spreading yourself too thin, especially if you’re new to goal setting.

Over to You…

As you can see, you can do many things to increase your level of clarity. The best news is that you don’t have to wait; you can get started today.

As you increase your clarity, your life will get easier. You will make decisions faster and take more consistent action on your goals.

Before you know it, you’ll achieve goals you never even thought you could set for yourself. Now that’s true progress!
