March is a month of celebrating women. In March 2018, we added onto it through interviews with women in business.

During this month, we interviewed one business woman weekly and shared the interviews on this blog. This year, we continue with the same format and will share a new interview each week.

These interviewees are with regular women who have chosen to go into business on a full or part-time basis. The women come from different backgrounds, but they have a few things in common:

  1. They are professional women with college education and above.
  2. Most left their jobs or are planning to quit to move into business.
  3. All of them answered the call of their passion and got into businesses they love.

The Celebrating Women in Business series is also our effort to help increase the number of women getting into and succeeding in business. And we hope that through sharing the interviews, we’ll also be pushing the agenda for the International Women’s Day each year.

What to expect from the interviews

We share the interviews in two formats:

  • An audio MP3 recording.
  • A summary blog post of each interview.

There is a page on blog that’s dedicated to the interviews. You can visit this page and access any interview. For the moment, this access is free. However, we don’t know for how long well keep it free. So grab the recordings as soon as they’re released.

We also share links to the interviews on the Biashara 360 Facebook page and in our Facebook Group. Connect with us there for snippets of wisdom from each week’s interviewee.

Interview content

Note that these are not formal interviews. Instead, they are more of discussions or conversations. We started by interviewing business women we’ve coached or worked with. Over time, we aim to snowball this as we get access to more business women.

Each woman shares her journey into business. We explore:

  • How (and why) they made the decision to start a business.
  • How they got started.
  • The challenges and successes they’ve had since startup.
  • Their advice for other women in business or those considering getting into business.
  • …and much more.

Our plan is to hold weekly interviews in March and then share one interview per month throughout the year. However, this is still work in progress and we’re updating this article as we move along.

Spread the word!

Women in business have unique challenges. Unfortunately, many women don’t get access to detailed information and help from those who are already in business. There are also a lot of professional women who want to move into business, but they’re scared or feel stuck.

Our interviews are with women who have been in such positions, or worse. There is a lot of valuable advice here for women who want to get into business and those already in business. You’ll also benefit if you’re in business and have been wondering whether to change track or get out of business altogether.

Beyond that, you too can be part of the positive change by:

  1. Sharing this information on your personal social media profiles.
  2. Leaving a comment on this page, the Interviews With Business Women page or in any of the summary blog posts we create for each interview.
  3. Signing up for an interview yourself if you’re already in business on a part-time or full-time basis.

Let’s help more women grow sustainable businesses that fulfil them even as they create employment and meet the needs of their customers.

How has your business journey been?

Getting started on these interviews was exciting for me as it was something I’d wanted to do for a long time. I’ve enjoyed the interviews held so far and look forward to learning and growing as we interview more women.

I’d love to hear about you and your business journey. Feel free to share your experience, goals, and success strategies in the Comments below.
